sticky_enabled=”0″]The Naungdawgyi Ceti is located in the northeast part of the pagoda compound, standing 150 feet (46 meters) tall. It enshrines a sacred hair relic of Gotama Buddha brought by Naungdawgyi, Taphussa, hence the name. It was restored during the reign of King Debayin, the son of King Alaungmintaya (C.E. 1760-63), and later during the reign of King Sagaing (1819-38), who was the successor of King Tharyarwaddy. The stupa experienced damage in 1237 M.E. Subsequently, U Mon Htaw, the forest chief of the Hmainglonggyi forest, from Kado village, Mawlamyine, along with Daw Phwa (the donor of the Htidaw alone), donated a new spire, golden bird figures, and carried out brick renovations. In 1975 C.E., the Pagoda Trustees’ Committee offered a new spire, and in 2000 C.E., the government led a major restoration project, covering the entire structure with bronze plates as an offering.[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column_inner][\/et_pb_row_inner][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
