Shwedagon Pagoda Trustees: U Thein Maung, U Ba Kyaw, U Thin, U Bhoe Byaw, U Ba Thaw, U Bhoe Saw, and U Nyunt, Dr. U Nyo and his wife Daw Nyunt, who were prominent local benefactors, applied for permission to construct a grand and sturdy pavilion. Permission was granted, and they donated it. According to the regulations of the Shwedagon Pagoda, a fee of 2000 kyats was deposited. The foundation laying ceremony was held on the 11th day of the waxing moon of Nattaw in the Myanmar Calendar 1299. Even after Dr. U Nyo’s death, his wife Daw Nyunt continued to maintain and renovate the pavilion until 1967. Inside the pavilion, there are 20 Buddhist historical paintings. On May 2-3, 2008, Cyclone Nargis caused significant damage to the pavilion’s roof, resulting in repairs costing over 9.6 million kyats.
