renovated during the comprehensive restoration project in 1997. This included replacing the roofs and tiers of four weakened pavilions, demolishing and reconstructing the leading pavilion at the platform, replacing the old, deteriorating roofs with new ones, and reinforcing the weak wooden pillars with concrete pillars. These efforts were carried out while preserving and enhancing the walkway with intricate Myanmar craftsmanship. \nThe total cost of the restoration of the Northern Walkway amounted to 146.0 million kyats, including 79.5 million kyats for the traditional Myanmar craftsmanship. On September 20, 1998, the grand opening ceremony of the Northern Walkway\u2019s main entrance, platform entrance, and the stone-inscription of chronicle for the walkway’s restoration project were all held on the same day.
