The exam is divided into two categories: monks aged between 20 and 30 recite Buddhist scriptures, and upon passing the recitation examination, they are allowed to participate in the written examination. In the other category, only monks aged up to 35 are allowed to take part in the written examination on Buddhist scriptures. After passing the respective examinations, monks are awarded the Cet\u012bya-abhiva\u1e43sa titles, while those in the other category are awarded the Cet\u012bya Pariyatti Dharmmacariya Gantavacaka titles. Those who pass all three exams within one year receive Vatamsaka titles. The awarding ceremony is held to confer the respective titles to the monks, and the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees donates cash to the monks and records the events.
