The archive is a 3-story building located at the back of Shop 40, under the east gate of Shwedagon Pagoda. Previously, It is located on the basement of the Shwedagon Pagoda’s Museum (Rahu Corner) and was opened on 14.7.1992.
At that time, the archive was a branch of the museum-gallery department. In 1994, it was designated as the archives sub- department directly handled by the head office, and now it is handle by department of the staff affairs and records. In 2011, In order to upgrade the archive to a new Buddha museum, the archive on the basement of the museum was moved to the eastern of U Khin Own Pittakat (also known as hpyar-pone Pittakat) and opened on 21.8.2013. Donors of that archivet , family of U Thet and Daw Mi , family of U shwe Own and Daw tay tay was donated in the year of 1299. In the archives, office orders, Instructions, weekly meeting minutes, Festival plans, reports, CD, DVD, Photo album, Video Album issued by various departments of Shwedagon Pagoda
has been stored. The archive is not for public display, but for the systematic preservation and collection of historical documents so that they can be accessed as needed.
Books and file kept in archives, Daw Hla Kyi from the National Archives Department of the current preservation (sub-group) model of the books. The archival team of the Chief Officer served from 25.6.1991 to 10.7.1992.

(4) communication; Information and Related Archives 1 to 7 (1959 to 1988)
(5) Archives 1 to 2 relating to other departments (1893 to 1988)
