The rules and notices announced by the Board of Trustees of Shwedagon Pagoda to be followed by the pilgrims

Notice Prohibitions

1. Photography/video recording issues at Shwedagon Pagoda and Donations will only be allowed to be processed after receiving an application for permission from the office manager’s office.
2. Flying of small unmanned aerial vehicles and small Remote Control System vehicles on the Shwedagon Pagoda and within the sacred grounds are strickly prohibited.
3. Obscene behaviour and Tik Tok videos are prohibited on Shwedagon Pagoda Square.
4. Pilgrim women are requested not to attend wearing tights, which are unseemly against Myanmar culture and traditation.
5. If you go to the square, you must not wear socks, shoes and slippers, short skirts. Do not wear shorts skirts or pants do not wear wide knee.

Foreigner admission fee rates

  • The entrance fee is Ks 20,000/- (exactly twenty thousand Kyats) per foreigner visiting Shwedagon Pagoda.
  • Foreigners who are embassy employees in Myanmar with a Shwedagon Pagoda permission Cards will be charged Ks 10,000/ (if they visit the Shwedagon Pagoda once from 1.10.2023.)

Donations

Board of Trustees of Shwedagon Pagoda will describe the rules and notices that pilgrims must follow according to the following sections.

Donation about golden robe

One tical of pure gold (1piece) = 5,000,000 MMK
Six tical of pure gold (1piece) = 30,000,000 MMK

Donation of flowers and vases

The entire Singuttara Hill area will be planted and decorated with beautiful flower garlands and will be donated. We invite you to come and donate flowers and pots of orchids to Horticulture Department

About donation of oil lamps

Oil lamp cups can be donated at a rate of 100/-kyat per cup, starting with a minimum of 500 cups.

Electricity donation rates

1. For (16) light poles of upper platform = 5000MMK
2. For (5) light poles (aerial mast) of platform = 5000MMK
3. For Naungtawgyi pagoda = 5000MMK
4. For pavilions on the platform = 5000MMK
5. For Four Walkways = 5000MMK
6. For Four Adoration Halls = 5000MMK
7. For a whole shwedagon pagoda = 10000MMK
8. For the whole hill of the shwedagon pagoda = 30,000MMK

Set price for sale of offertory – ( A pack of coconut and bananas with other ingredients.)

2025, Set price for sale of offertory consisting of hands of bananas, coconut,etc.decoratively arranged:

1. Coconut + Mysore banana (3) packs = 9,500 MMK
2. Coconut + Mysore banana (5) packs = 15,000 MMK
3. Coconut +golden banana (3) packs = 23,000 MMK
4. Coconut +golden banana (5) packs = 30,000 MMK
5. Coconut +unripe banana (3) packs = 12,000 MMK
6. Coconut +unripe banana (5) packs = 15,000 MMK
7. Coconut +fragrant banana (3) packs = 12,000 MMK
8. Coconut +fragrant banana (5) packs = 18,000 MMK
If you add golden coconut instead of regular coconut, you have to pay 3,000/- (exactly three thousand kyats) more. If it is not sold at the set price, you can report to the Board of Trustees office at 01-375767.

About upper platform of Shwedagon Pagoda

The rules and regulations of upper platform to be followed by the public pilgrims announced by the Board of Trustees of Shwedagon Pagoda.

Rules to be followed by attending the upper platform

1. Those attending the upper platform must undergo a security check.
2. Attendees must only attend with a card approved by the Board of Trustees and wear a loose-fitting column shirt (Myanmar dress) in accordance with the rules.
3. To return after paying homage and not to go around in the Upper Platform.
4. Drinking alcohol and smoking are not allowed on the upper platform. Also Bringing the lighter and tobacco are not allowed.
5. Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed.
6. Enter and exit only through approved gates. Repart the Authorities in need of case.
7. If you find gold and jewelry, report it to the nearby staff. ( Do not collect by yourself)
8. People under the age of 18 and foreigers are not allowed to attend.
9. Do not bring jewelry items onto the upper platform and if you go up to the upper platform wearing jewelry and get checked when you come back down, it will be kept as property of Pagoda.
10. On the upper platform, the business operators must carry out the work in accordance with the rules and regulations with the prescribed uniform.

Rules to be followed by attending the upper platform for a certificate of permission to worship in the above-mentioned places

1. The applicant must submit (2) 1” * 1.5” size photographs of the applicant along with the application form specified by the Board of Trustees. The photograph must be taken in a white, crew-necked shirt, or a suit, taken within the past (6) months. Civil servants from organizations and departments such as the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, Red Cross, City Hall, and Construction may submit a photograph taken in their respective uniforms.
2. The applicant must have a certificate from his/her place of residence (ward and township police) stating that he/she is a genuine resident of this ward and is of good moral character.
3. The applicant must be a Burmese national who is at least 18 years old and a Buddhist male. Both parents of the applicant must be Buddhist Burmese citizens.
4. If you are a departmental employee, the application must include an official recommendation with the relevant department’s office seal.
5. You must purchase the application form by presenting the original National Registration Card or Citizenship Verification Card. Along with the application form, you must submit (a) a copy of the National Registration Card or Citizenship Verification Card (b) a copy of the household register.
6. The application must be completed in Burmese only.
7. The permit must be collected in person within 2 months from the date of application. No representative is allowed to collect the permit. If you do not collect it within (2) months, you will have to reapply.

Rules for tour guides to follow

The following terms and conditions must be followed for tour guides

Notice regarding activities as tour guides in Shwedagon Pagoda

  • Only those who are officially licensed by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism are authorized to work as tour guides.
  • A valid license card must be displayed visibly while conducting tour guide duties.
  • If the inspection team visits the Shwedagon Pagoda from time to time, it will be inspected thoroughly.
  • If you wish to visit the pagoda without a licensed tour guide through other organizations, you must be able to show the inspection team proof that the person providing the explanation is someone who has been assigned by the relevant organization.
  • Please be advised that those who do not comply with the above information will be considered unlicensed tour guides and will be subject to action in accordance with the Myanmar Hotel and Tourism Law.
